Synopsis

This anthology stems from meetings organized as part of a “third mission” project by the Department of Law at the University of Urbino and aims to offer some points for interdisciplinary reflection on a topical issue: prison life not only in its static dimension but also in its dynamic one—that is, in terms of opportunities for rehabilitation and resocialization, with particular reference to work activities. Specifically, after framing imprisonment as a last resort, the focus shifts to the central role of work opportunities and the active involvement of the local community in the reintegration of inmates, as well as to the importance of addressing the actual working conditions of inmates in the context of promoting a genuine culture of legality, concluding with several firsthand accounts gathered in the field. The multidisciplinary nature of the study aims to gather a variety of perspectives, all centered on the prison environment as a setting for synergistic potential, geared toward promoting human dignity in the interest of both the prison population and the community as a whole.
